Banqiao Town

Banqiao township is located in the southwest of Taikang County, adjacent to xihuaying town of Xihua county in the south, Daxin Town of Fugou County in the west, Changying town in the north and xunmokou town in the East. It is 12.5 km long from north to South and 10 km wide from east to west, with a total area of 89.09 square kilometers (2017). There are 33 administrative villages, 88 natural villages and 230 villager groups in the township, with a cultivated area of 97890 Mu and a population of 43409 (2017). It is a grain and cotton town, rich in wheat, cotton, corn, peanuts, beans, mung beans, sesame, fruits and vegetables.

Name:

At the end of Tang Dynasty, the ancestor moved here from Honghong cave in Shanxi Province and lived in Hedong. In order to cross the river conveniently, he built a wooden bridge, hence the name. Banqiao commune was set up by xunmokou commune and Changying commune in 1965. It was changed into Banqiao Township in 1983. In 1998, the township was withdrawn to build a town.
