Ancient city street

The ancient city street belongs to Suiyang District, Shangqiu City, Henan Province. It is located in the city of Shangqiu, a national historical and cultural city, with a total area of 7.38 square kilometers. It governs 18 neighborhood committees and one administrative village, with a total population of 42635 (in 2010), and the Urbanization rate is 97.8%.

The ancient city of Shangqiu has a history of thousands of years. As early as the suirenshi period, it was the capital of the three emperors and five emperors period. It was the capital of the song state in the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, the capital of the Liang state in the Han Dynasty, the capital of Suiyang from the Qin and Han Dynasties to the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the capital of yingtianfu in Nanjing in the Northern Song Dynasty, the capital of Zhaogou in the Southern Song Dynasty, and the capital of guidefu in the Jin, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. The old city was flooded by yellow water in 1502, and rebuilt in 1503. It took eight years and was completed in 1511. It has a history of more than 500 years. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was governed by the German government and divided into four groups: the East, the west, the South and the north. In 1913, it was set up as the first district, with jurisdiction over 18 joint guarantees. In 1949, it was renamed Chengguan District, with 7 administrative streets and 8 townships under its jurisdiction. It was renamed Chengguan town in 1956 and Chengguan satellite people's commune was built in 1958. In May 1960, it was transferred to Shangqiu City. In 1961, Shangqiu County was restored. In 1997, Shangqiu County was removed to establish a city. After Shangqiu County was removed to establish Suiyang District, Chengguan town was transformed into Gucheng sub district office of Suiyang district.

Shangqiu ancient city is famous for its historic sites and beautiful sceneries. The streets in the city are like eight trigrams, which divide the whole city into several blocks. There are four bridges, which are distributed at the four city gates, connecting the four passes of East, South, West and North. With a history of more than 4000 years, Shangqiu is one of the four most complete ancient cities in China. In 1986, it was named as a national historical and cultural city by the State Council, and in 1996, it was awarded the national key cultural relics protection unit by the State Council. The elegant platform for Confucius to give lectures, the ancestral hall of Zhang Xun, which commemorates emperor Xu yuan of the Tang Dynasty and general Zhang Xun of the Ming Dynasty, Yingtian academy, one of the four academies of the Northern Song Dynasty, the hall of repentance, the former residence of Hou Fangyu, the talented scholar of the late Ming Dynasty, the site of Huaihai battle and the Catholic Church of Suiyang are all in the territory.
