Hongyang township is located in Haiyuan County, Ningxia. It governs 11 administrative villages and 68 natural villages with a population of 10142 (in 2017). The total land area of the township is 333.35 square kilometers.

Historical evolution

Hongyang district was established in 1952, commune in 1958 and township in 1984. In 1997, with an area of 210 square kilometers and a population of 10000, Hongyang, Qianjin, LiuTao, Hongbao, Shitang and shujiachuan were administrated. In 2003, eight villages in Hongyang Township and Yangming Township were merged to form a new Hongyang township. So far, Hongyang township has jurisdiction over 11 villages. Haotan village, Yangming village, Zhangyuan village, Anbao village, Jianguo village, Shangyao village, Xietao village, Liwa village, Shuchuan village, Hongyang village, Hongbao village, Qianjin village, LiuTao village, Shitang village. Haotan, Shangyao and Liwa villages in Yangming township are under the jurisdiction of Lijun township.

At present, there are two junior middle schools, 17 primary schools, 17 party branches under the township party committee, including 14 rural branches, and 665 party members. There are 8215 large livestock (2510 cattle), 4168 cattle (1063 cattle), 87000 sheep and 28000 sheep in the township. In 2006, the township party committee and government took economic construction as the center, agricultural industrialization as the focus, to increase farmers' income, speed up the well-off process, and take the overall situation as a whole, so as to maintain the sustained, rapid and healthy development momentum of the township economy and social undertakings. In 2006, the township's goal is to achieve a total social output value of 59.64 million yuan (55.2 million yuan in 2005), an increase of 4.44 million yuan or 8% over 2004. It is expected to achieve a per capita cash income of 1662 yuan (1485 yuan in 2005), an increase of 177 yuan or 11.9% over 2004.
