Before 1949, it belonged to Bafang District of Linxia administrative inspector's office. In 1956, Bafang office was established. In 1958, Bafang office was incorporated into Yuejin commune. In 1961, Bafang commune was established. In March 1968, it was renamed Hongwei commune. In October 1974, Bafang sub district office was under the jurisdiction of Chengguan town. In 1985, Bafang sub district office was established. In October 2019, Bafang Street governs four communities.
At the end of 2011, Bafang street had 49 commercial outlets with 1266 employees. The total sales of social goods reached 23.71 million yuan, an increase of 12% over the previous year.
