Historical evolution

It got its name from the government's presence in Wangyi village.

In April 1956, Gaoping Township was set up by Chengguan Town, belonging to Tongchuan county.

In May 1961, it was changed into a commune.

In February 1978, it belongs to Tongchuan City.

In February 1980, the four production brigades of Chuankou, Wangyi, Hongqi and huiduipo were assigned to Gaoping commune; in April, they belonged to the suburbs.

In 1982, it was renamed Wangyi commune.

In March 1984, the township was set up.

In September 1987, it was transferred to urban area.

In February 2000, it belongs to Wangyi district.

In 2015, Wangyi township was abolished and Wangyi street was established.
