The town is under the jurisdiction of Baqing County in Naqu City, where the county people's government, the county people's Congress and the county Party committee are stationed. Located in the central and southern part of the county. Laxi means "dead Zhangzi" in Tibetan. The people's Government of Laxi township was established in 1960, the commune was changed in 1969, the township was restored in 1984, and the four townships of Laxi and Songta were merged in 1988.

The township was established in 1960 and the commune was changed in 1971. In 1988, the former Laxi Township, sangta Township, simuna Township and daze Township were merged into Laxi township. In 1996, it had jurisdiction over 14 administrative villages, namely, guanlang, laxitang, shenjiuda, lebengui, Duobu, maerquda, lematang, chadingka, sangzhu, Caiwang, bogona, luguokongma, Gongjiao and selonggei. The township government had jurisdiction over guanlang (i.e., chajuru, laxifa, gongguoyi, lukima, laxitang, yunpugai, gongguoer, lakou, waqing, nasi, luoyongnong and Chuda) Dangmenre, Lasika, Segui, waqiong, Duobao, chadengmaka, maqundah, gongjiaqian, duoweida, paguo, Rezhong, langpige, guoqiong, Yousong, jigagai, Songda, guqingpu 29 villages, in laxitang). In 2000, the permanent population of Laxi township was 6253 (Wupu). In 2002, Laxi township was abolished and Laxi town was established.

Geography
Laxi town covers an area of 973 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 29 Village (neighborhood) committees and 45 natural villages. The town government is stationed in the neighborhood committee. The population is 5 274, all of them are Tibetans except a minority of Han nationality. The economy is dominated by agriculture and animal husbandry, with more natural pastures, producing highland barley, wheat, rape, etc., and raising yaks, sheep, goats, etc. There are primary and secondary schools, cinemas, county people's Hospital, post and Telecommunications Bureau, department stores, etc. Heichang highway passes through this area.
