The township was established in 1960 and the commune was changed in 1970. In 1987, the former mengdang Township and QIANGMA Township were merged to build a new mengdang Township, and the former xueru Township and Seba Township were merged into xueru township. In 1996, mengdang Township had a population of about 17000, with five administrative villages of Jialong, erlongsongduo, nayuna, yaza and Nala. history
Tibetan means "Jingdao". Before the democratic reform, Nyalam was under the jurisdiction of Ali. In 1959, the Tibet Working Committee decided to abolish the old government. In May 1960, the county was officially established and put under the jurisdiction of Shigatse. Nyalam County governs 1 town, 6 townships, 4 neighborhood committees and 45 village committees: Zhangmu Town, chongdui Township, suozuo Township, Yalai Township, Bolong Township, nailong Township and menbu township.
