Zhoukou town

Zhoukou town is 14 kilometers north of the county. It is adjacent to yazigang Township in the East, Potou town in the south, Longyang town across Yuanshui River, tinzui town in the west, Wenwei Township and Xihu management area in the north. The total area is 111.28 square kilometers (2017), which is 107295 mu, including 54100 mu of cultivated land and 41164 mu of water area.

History of construction

Zhoukou town is located at the end of the Yuanshui River into the West Dongting Lake, which is the confluence of Yuanshui River and Lishui river. The average altitude of Zhoukou town is 29.8 meters, among which baizhizhang is 24.6 meters, which is the lowest embankment in Changde City. In the second year of Yongle in Ming Dynasty, local farmers reclaimed wasteland and built Taihe, Baohe and nanqun barriers. Between Taihe and Baohe embankments, there is a small island at the mouth of the Wulong River, which later became a market, called Zhoukou. Before liberation, it belonged to Gubei township. In the early days of the founding of new China, it belonged to the Fifth District of Hanshou County and was the seat of the District People's government. In 1956, the district was withdrawn and the township was established as Zhoukou Township, with jurisdiction over Zhoukou and Wenwei embankments. In 1958, Zhoukou people's commune was established by merging with tinzui township. In 1959, wenweiyuan was incorporated into yazigang commune. It was founded in 1961. In February 1984, the township system was restored. In August 1994, the township was withdrawn to establish Zhoukou town. In December 2015, the township division was adjusted. Zhoukou town was merged with Wenwei township to establish Zhoukou Town, and Zhoukou town was set as the seat of town government.

Zhoukou town has convenient highway transportation. The 67km ring road connects all parts of the town. The hardened mileage of the ring road exceeds 30km.
