Maji township is located in the northernmost part of Fugong County, Nujiang Prefecture, Yunnan Province, adjacent to Weixi County in Diqing Prefecture in the East, shiyueyue Township in benxian County in the south, Puladi Township in Gongshan County in the north and Myanmar in the West.

Maji township is located at the northernmost end of Fugong County, Yunnan Province, adjacent to weixisu Autonomous County of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in the East, shiyueyue township of benxian County in the south, Puladi township of Gongshan County in the north, and the union of Myanmar in the west, with a border of 29.5 km. The Nujiang River runs through the whole territory, showing a north-south "V" shaped valley. The narrowest point between the East and the west is 17.5 km, and the length from the north to the south is 28 km. It is a typical representative of the Nujiang Valley. The township government is 62 kilometers away from the county seat, with an altitude of 1370 meters.

The total land area of the township is 502.75 square kilometers. The cultivated land area is 15452.5 mu, including 499 mu of paddy field and 14643.2 mu of dry land. The township has 612027 mu of woodland, accounting for 78.28% of the total land area.
