The total area of the township is 105 square kilometers, with 9180 mu of cultivated land, accounting for 8.7% of the total land area, including 5715 mu of rice, accounting for 5.4% of the total land area, 3465 mu of dry soil, accounting for 3.3% of the total land area, and 0.66 mu of cultivated land per capita.
topographic features
There are pre Sinian shangbanxi group, Cambrian, Permian and Quaternary strata distributed in Kuanchang township. The strata in the area are mainly middle Cambrian Gaotai formation, thin argillaceous dolomite, 349-394m thick. It is a low Middle Mountain hilly valley basin landform. The terrain in the south is higher than that in the north, and that in the west is higher than that in the East. It belongs to the transition zone from Guizhou Plateau to hills in Western Hunan. The surface elevation is 620-750m, showing the geomorphic characteristics of eroded middle and low mountains. The stratum is metatuff and metasandstone of Qingshuijiang formation of Xiajiang group, with good vegetation. The forest coverage rate is 46%, and the vegetation is mainly secondary plants, mainly coniferous forest, part of broad-leaved forest, and part of scattered shrub and grass vegetation, with pine trees in the majority and Chinese fir trees in the second place. The vegetation is better, the soil erosion is less, and the water conservation performance is good.
Climate conditions
Located in the east of Sansui County, Kuanchang township is the east gate of Sansui County, with prominent location advantages. It has a mid subtropical monsoon climate with warm climate, abundant rainfall, hot rain in the same season, no severe heat in summer and no severe cold in winter. Winter and summer are long, spring and autumn are short. However, the spatial and temporal distribution of rainfall is uneven, and drought and flood occur alternately.
The annual average rainfall is 1147mm, the highest is 1548mm, and the youngest is 854mm. The rainfall is concentrated from April to September, accounting for 72.5% of the annual rainfall; the annual average temperature is 14.7 ℃, the warmest is 15.4 ℃, the coldest is 14.4 ℃, the annual deviation between cold and warm is 1 ℃, the minimum temperature of extreme month is - 13.10c, the annual sunshine is 1254 hours, accounting for 27% of the sunshine hours, and the annual evaporation is 1116.9, the maximum is 1191mm in 1972, The minimum is 987.2mm in 1980. In recent years, the evaporation is large in summer and autumn, which often leads to dehydration of paddy field, lack of moisture in dry land and aggravation of dry land.
Economic society
The township governs 10 administrative villages, 78 villager groups and 65 natural villages, with a total number of 3246 households. The population of the township is 14242, mainly Dong nationality, accounting for 98% of the total population, including 13854 agricultural population and 388 non-agricultural population. agricultural production
1. Basic situation of farmland
Its composition is: 3.3% of the total land area and 0.66 mu of cultivated land per capita.
The distribution of cultivated land is closely related to the combination of landforms. Terraces in paddy field and slope soil in dry land are distributed on the hillside with higher altitude. Due to the great difference of altitude and warm climate, the soil base is serious and the soil layer is thin. The ecosystem is relatively fragile, and the precipitation is relatively concentrated and unevenly distributed, resulting in serious soil erosion. Therefore, the capacity of water conservation and drought resistance is very low.
2. Forestry and ecological environment
There are 7933.2 hectares of forest in the township, covering 46% of the total area, including useful timber forest, protective forest, firewood forest, special forest, economic forest and bamboo forest. There are abundant resources of medicinal materials and natural herbage. Grain crops, economic crops and cultivated vegetation are developing year by year. As a result, the formation of a wide range of biological resources, vegetation presents a rich and colorful natural landscape.
3. Basic conditions of agricultural production
Natural conditions and water and soil resources are the basis of agricultural development. Due to different regions, the formation of social and economic conditions are different. Our country has a large agricultural population and surplus rural labor force. The national economy is dominated by agriculture.
In recent years, great efforts have been made to carry out the basic construction of farmland and water conservancy, with good results in the promotion of improved varieties, increased investment in the construction of water conservancy facilities, continuous enhancement of agricultural and rural industrial structure, and further progress in the basic conditions of agricultural production. However, due to historical and natural reasons, the basic conditions of agricultural production in our township are poor, agriculture is still dependent on nature, and drought is still an important factor restricting the economic development of our township.
4. Adjustment of agricultural structure
In order to adapt to the development of market economy and implement the comprehensive agricultural development plan of the tenth five year plan, the agricultural and rural economic structure of our township will be adjusted for a period of time in the future: first, adjust the layout of agricultural industry and give full play to regional comparative advantages. On steep slopes, it is necessary to step up the conversion of farmland to forest, vigorously develop bamboo, wood and fruit industries, ecological agriculture and water-saving agriculture. In the main grain producing areas, we should try to model high-tech agriculture, develop grain production, and optimize the grain variety and quality structure; second, we should adjust the structure of agricultural products, develop high-quality and pollution-free agricultural products, comprehensively improve the quality and safety level of agricultural products, and speed up the quality of agricultural products; third, we should increase the planting area of economic crops, dry crops, and medium and dry crops To avoid summer drought and reduce losses.
