Located in the east of Meigu county. It borders Gudui township of Leibo County in the East, xigansa and Longmen Township in the south, Saku Township in the west, ANIMU Township in the north, Dafengding Township in the northeast and sieamao mountain in the southeast. The terrain is towering in the northeast, with the highest altitude of 3945 meters; in the west, it is lower, with the altitude of 2437 meters. It belongs to alpine mountain area. The total area is 107.53 square kilometers. Nzawaxi, located in suowaxi village of Xiangzhi County, is 2500 meters above sea level. There is a rural highway connecting with Chengmei highway, 50 kilometers away from the county seat. It governs 6 villages, 24 groups, 687 households and 3064 people, including Vasi, Laluo, dalaamo, nimuze, ejue and muzuoluo. The population density is 28.49 per square kilometer.

In July 1956, the township was established, which governed suowaxi village and was under the jurisdiction of Waxi district. In October 1958, the three townships of Ligou, sijiji and wenjue were merged and the Township People's Committee was established. In May 1968, the Township Reform Committee was established. On February 19, 1972, it was converted into a commune. On July 12, 1981, the commune reform committee was changed into the management committee. In July 1984, the township system was restored and the township government was established.

On January 12, 2021, Sichuan Provincial People's government decided to abolish Waxi Township and establish Hongxi town. The former administrative region of Waxi township is the administrative region of Hongxi town. The people's Government of Hongxi town is located at No. 1, yiguojue street, yiguojue village.

In 1990, the total agricultural output value of the township was 904000 yuan (285000 yuan for agriculture, 127000 yuan for forestry, 332000 yuan for animal husbandry, 160000 yuan for sideline and fishery); the area of cultivated land was 6200 mu, and the total grain output was 709000 kg. The main products are potato, buckwheat and oats. There are 867 yellow cattle, 721 yaks, 151 horses, 3079 pigs, 543 goats and 9488 sheep. There are 1 commercial purchasing and marketing group and 1 Bank Credit Union in the township, 5 rural primary schools with 191 students, 1 health center and 1 medical staff.
