Liaoping township is located in the southwest of Ganluo County, 52 kilometers away from the county seat, covering an area of 106.2 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 7 administrative villages, 28 villager groups, a total of 1176 villagers, with a total population of 5168 people. It is a ethnic township inhabited by Yi, Han and Tibetan people, and a Lamei village where the township government is stationed. The land of the township is fertile, suitable for a variety of crop production, such as corn, potato, buckwheat, kidney bean, etc.; economic trees include walnut and Zanthoxylum; agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry have broad prospects. The territory is rich in hydropower and mineral resources, including 6 hydropower stations. The mineral resources are mainly copper, crystal, granite, silicon and lead-zinc. On June 12, 2020, the people's Government of Sichuan Province decided to abolish Liaoping township.
