Yihai town is located in the southeast of Mianning County, adjacent to Houshan Township in the East, Lugu town in the south, Hongmo Township in the West and Fuxing town in the north. National Highway 108 runs through the whole county, covering an area of 23.2 square kilometers. The town government is 23 kilometers away from the county in the north.

On December 13, 2019, Sichuan Provincial People's Government approved Liangshan Prefecture to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns and townships in six counties (cities), including Xichang City (cfzm [2019] No. 18): tuowu Township and Caogu Township were canceled, and their administrative areas were put under the jurisdiction of Yihai Town, and the people's Government of Yihai town was stationed at No. 56, Yihai street.
