The town is under the jurisdiction of Jinyang county. In 1956, pailai township was established. In 1968, it was renamed Hongwei township. In 1972, it was renamed pailai commune. In 1981, it was renamed pailai commune. In 1984, it was repatriated to township. In 1995, it was founded pailai town.

On January 12, 2021, Sichuan Provincial People's Government approved Liangshan Prefecture to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns in Puge county and other seven counties (Chuanfu Civil Affairs [2021] No. 1): zezu township was abolished, and the administrative areas of Zhizu Township and yuanmufu Township Yantou village were put under the jurisdiction of pailai Town, and pailai Town People's government was stationed at No. 31, group 1, pailai village.

Pailai town is located in the southwest of the county, 40 kilometers away from the county, covering an area of 39.9 square kilometers, with a population of 7000. Jin Pai highway passes through. It has jurisdiction over nine village committees: tangjiayingpan, pailai, Tiandi Ping, nongdi Ping, housekeeper Liangzi, Huoshan, Tanshan, Boji Liangzi and Liangping.

Pailai town mainly produces corn, potato, rice, sweet potato, konjac and Zanthoxylum. Animal husbandry is mainly pig and goat. Specialty tung oil, lacquer.
