On December 23, 2019, Sichuan Provincial People's Government approved Ganzi Prefecture to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns and townships in six counties (cities) including Kangding city (cfzm [2019] No. 25): cancel gezong Township and establish gezong town. The administrative area of gezong town is the administrative area of gezong Town, and gezong Town People's government is located at No. 17, group 2, gezong village.

On December 24, 2019, the people's Government of Ganzi Prefecture abolished gezong Township and established gezong town according to the reply of Sichuan Provincial People's Government on approving Ganzi Prefecture to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns and townships in Kangding city and other six counties (cities) (cfgm [2019] No. 25). The administrative region of gezong township was the administrative region of gezong Town, and the people's Government of gezong town was stationed at No. 17, group 2, gezong village.
