Mamiao Township

Mamiao Township, belonging to Qianwei County, Leshan City, Sichuan Province, is located 21.7 kilometers southwest of Qianwei county and on the North Bank of Mabian river. It is adjacent to Tangba Township in the East, Tongxing Township in the south, Huangdan town in Muchuan County in the West and BAGOU town in the north. In 2017, mamiao Township covers an area of 44 square kilometers with a permanent population of 8079.

In 2015, mamiao township has jurisdiction over 72 villager groups in 11 villages including Bao'an, Xiaocun, Chengxin, Jihe, Tianchi, Ouhua, Baiguo, Xiaolin, Shiyue, dingtang and Lianhua, and 3 resident groups in one community of Mawangmiao.

In December 2019, Sichuan Provincial People's government decided to abolish mamiao township.

Historical evolution

In 1949, it was named mamiao township. It is named after the horse king temple on the Bank of Mabian River to the west of the market.

In June 1951, mamiao township was divided into four townships: public security, democracy, mamiao and ginkgo.

In February 1956, mamiao Township, Gongan Township and Baiguo Township were merged to establish mamiao township.

In October 1958, it became the mamiao people's commune.

In 1984, it was restored to mamiao township.
