Xiangxi Township

Located in the south of Zhaohua District, Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province (Yuanba district was renamed Zhaohua district on March 12, 2013 with the approval of the State Council). It borders Yongning and Yuanxi towns in Cangxi County in the East and south, Hutiao town in the West and Zhangjia town in the north. It covers an area of 28.46 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 5 villages and 32 groups with a total population of 3124 (2017). Han nationality, the township government is located in Baihe Village, 54 kilometers away from Zhaohua district. It is named after Xiangxi temple.

Historical evolution

In 1951, Xiangxi township was set up in the east of Hutiao Township, belonging to Hutiao district. In 1952, Aopan village was merged into Aopan township. In 1953, Aopan township was withdrawn and Aopan village was merged. Xiangxi people's commune was established in 1958. It was renamed Xiangxi Township in 1984. It belongs to Weizi District in 1986. In 1989, it belonged to Yuanba district. In 1992, the township was withdrawn and merged into Hutiao town. Xiangxi township was restored in 1995. in December 2019, Qingshui Township and Xiangxi township will be abolished and Qingshui town will be established.
