Regional overview

The township is located in the west of Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County, in the middle of Longmen Mountains, in the middle reaches of qingpianhe River, a tributary of Fujiang River, with Yuli Township in the East, Badi Township in the south, Mao County of Aba Prefecture in the west, and Baishi and Taolong townships in the North. It covers an area of 118.11 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 7 administrative villages and 34 villager groups. The total population is 2317 (2017). there are four ditches and one river in the township, with abundant forestry and water resources. The altitude is between 950-3860 meters. Suitable for pigs, cattle, sheep, rabbits, chickens and other poultry, livestock and corn, potato, soybean, buckwheat and other crops, as well as eucommia, rhubarb, Huanglian, Duhuo, angelica, Muxiang and other Chinese herbal medicine growth. Maliuwan is located on the left bank of the middle reaches of qingpian River, along dunqing highway and beimao highway, about 80 kilometers away from Beichuan new county.

Historical evolution

Because of its unique geographical location and rock structure, mountain springs are mostly inter rock leaching water, with sweet and delicious water, rich in a variety of minerals and trace elements. Its altitude and climate conditions are very suitable for wine making. There has been a tradition of private brewing since ancient times. According to "Shiquan County annals" (Shiquan County used to be the name of Beichuan County), since the reign of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty, there have been several winemaking workshops distributed in machao township. In the Republic of China, the owner of the manger was also very difficult because of the good quality of his private brewery and the inconvenience of transportation. He was deeply loved by the former Shiquan County Magistrate. He called the manger wine, the essence of the jade, the top grade in the liquor, and the name of the manger wine township. In May 1935, the Red Army and the Sichuan warlords launched a fierce battle in the Qianfo Mountain in machao township for more than three months. The victory of the Qianfo Mountain campaign created favorable conditions for the successful meeting of the Fourth Front Army and the first front army of the Red Army. As a battlefield hospital, Qiu's courtyard was temporarily requisitioned and preserved as the site of the General Hospital of the Fourth Front Army of the Red Army.
