Zhaoya town was established in 1934. In 1958, it was changed into Zhaoya commune. 1984: fuzhaoya town. In 1996, it had jurisdiction over 23 villages and 3 neighborhood committees. In 2008, it has jurisdiction over 8 villages, 117 villager groups and 1 community. In 2012, YANGJIU community was established.
