Mingzhong Township, belonging to Chengkou County of Chongqing, is located in the southeast of Chengkou County, bordering Wuxi County in the East, Zhiping Township in the south, Liaozi Township in the West and Kaizhou District in the north. It is 27.3km away from the residence of Chengkou county government, with a total area of 177.16km2.
In the Qing Dynasty, Mingzhong Township belonged to Babao and Sijia; in October 1984, it was changed from Mingzhong commune to Mingzhong township. By the end of 2018, the number of registered residence in Ming township was 6710. As of June 2020, Mingzhong township has one community and five administrative villages, and the Township People's government is located in Shuangli community.

In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), it belonged to Mengxi Township regiment of Southern District. In the 29th year of the Republic of China (1940), it belonged to the three districts of Inner Mongolia. In the thirtieth year of the Republic of China (1941), it belonged to the Second District, Caimeng district. In December 1949, it belongs to Mengmeng township.

In September 1958, Mingzhong township was changed into Mingzhong commune.
In October 1984, Mingzhong commune was changed into Mingzhong township.
In September 2004, Yanmai township was merged into Mingzhong township.
