Weizhou town

Weizhou Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Haicheng District, Beihai City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is located on the Beibu Gulf, just south of Beihai City, 21 nautical miles away from Beihai city. It is an island town in Guangxi. It has jurisdiction over Weizhou and Xieyang islands, with a coastline of 57.2 kilometers. The administrative area is 26.63 square kilometers.

In the Han Dynasty, it belonged to Hepu County. In September 1984, the commune was abolished and Weizhou town was established, which was subordinate to the suburb of the city. In December 1994, it was divided into Haicheng District. Since January 1, 2011, Weizhou town is under the jurisdiction of Haicheng District and entrusted to Beihai Weizhou Island Tourism Area Management Committee. Historical evolution

In the Han Dynasty, it belonged to Hepu County.

In Tang and Song Dynasty, it belonged to Leizhou inspection department.

In 1294, the inspection department of Weizhou was established.

In the early Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Leizhou Prefecture. In 1374, the inspection department moved to Suixi, Leizhou. In the 28th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1600), the guerrilla Department moved to Yong'an, Hepu County, Lianzhou Prefecture. Since then, Weizhou Island was under the dual jurisdiction of military administration of Leizhou and Lianzhou.

From 1662 to 1806, the residents of Weizhou were forced to move in three times, and the administrative agencies stationed on the island were abolished. The military control was in the charge of Haian guerrilla Bureau in Xuwen County of Leizhou Prefecture and Longmen Association in Hepu County of Lianzhou Prefecture. In 1860, 400 people in the mainland went to the island to settle down in spite of the difficulties and dangers and the government's ban. In 1867, the ban on the island was reopened. The boat people from Leizhou and Lianzhou were moved to the island, and the land and cottages on the island, which had been abandoned for hundreds of years, were revived. In the same year, French Catholic forces infiltrated the island and successively built one church in Shengtang, Chengzai and Xieyang. In 1894, Weizhou was officially assigned to Hepu Jinghai regiment by Leizhou, and a public bureau (Civil Administration) was set up on the island.

From the beginning of the Republic of China to the 20th year of the Republic of China (1931), it was under the jurisdiction of Hepu Jinghai regiment and Hepu second autonomous region. During the period from September 1938 to June 1945, it was occupied by the Japanese army, built an airport on the island and assembled warships. It became a naval and air force base for the Japanese invaders to occupy the rear area of South China.

On March 6, 1950, the PLA crossed the sea to liberate Weizhou Island. On March 8, 1950, the people's Government of Weizhou township was established.

In December 1951, Weizhou township was changed into the Fifth District of Beihai City, under the jurisdiction of Weizhou East, Weizhou West, Weizhou north three small townships and Nanwan town.

In April 1953, Weizhou was the third district of Beihai city.

In 1956, "three townships and one town" became Weizhou township.

In October 1958, Weizhou people's commune was established.
