Liantan town
Liantan town is a town under the jurisdiction of Yunfu City, Guangdong Province. It is a commercial and cultural center in the south of Yunnan county and a provincial center town in Guangdong Province. It is located on the East Bank of the middle reaches of Nanjiang River, bordering Hekou town in the South and Lidong town in the West. Liantan town used to be governed by ansui County in history. After the establishment of Xining County in Ming Dynasty, it was the capital of Jiankang. It was established in 1987. It has a subtropical monsoon climate with long summer and short winter and abundant rainfall.
The total area of the town is 95.1 square kilometers, of which the town area is 3.5 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 10 villages and 2 communities with a total population of 56227 (2017). Liantan, known as the "hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunan", has more than 20000 overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao.
In 2000, it was named as "the hometown of Chinese folk culture and art" by the Ministry of culture of the people's Republic of China. In December 2005, it was approved by the national development and Reform Commission as a national demonstration town for the comprehensive economic development of small towns and won the titles of "civilized town" and "advanced health town" of the province. On January 15, 2014, it was rated as the first batch of famous towns in Guangdong Province by the Department of agriculture of Guangdong Province and awarded the title of "famous towns in Guangdong".
Historical evolution
According to historical records, Liantan town used to be an Sui County from the southern and Northern Dynasties to the end of Sui Dynasty (420-618).
In the Ming Dynasty, the inspection department of Jinkang Township under Luoding Prefecture was once set up here.
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it belonged to dudang Village Fort of Jiankang in Xining county.
At the beginning of the Republic of China, it was named Liantan Town, which was under the jurisdiction of the eighth district. Later, it merged with Tian'an, Sanbao and Xiba, and was still called Liantan town.
At the beginning of the founding of new China, it was separated from Tian'an and other three townships, named Liantan administrative village.
In 1953, it was renamed Liantan township.
In 1957, it merged with Lianxi Township and was called Liantan town.
In 1958, it was a management area of Dongfeng people's commune.
In 1961, Liantan people's commune was established from Dongfeng people's commune.
In 1983, the community was removed and the district was changed.
In 1987, it was changed to township system, called Liantan town.

Zhanggong Temple Fair
Located in Liantan Town, Yunan County, Zhanggong temple was built to commemorate Zhang Yuanxun, a general who fought against Japanese in the Wanli year of the Ming Dynasty and general of Guangdong Province.
