Shangling town

Shangling Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Heping County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, is located in the north of Heping County. Guangdong Jiangxi expressway, Beijing Kowloon Railway and national highway 358 run through the whole territory, and are the first towns in Guangdong. By 2019, it has an area of 144.65 square kilometers, one neighborhood committee and 17 village committees, with a population of 31000.

In 2015, Shangling town achieved a total social output value of 195 million yuan.

Historical evolution

In the early 1950s, Shangling belonged to cenjiang Township and Datong Township successively.

In 1953, it was attached to the urban area.

In 1958, it belonged to Dongshan commune.

In 1960, it was changed into Shangling commune.

In 1983, it was renamed Shangling district office.

In 1987, it was renamed Shangling town.

Location context

Shangling town is located in the north of Heping County, connecting Dingnan County in Jiangxi Province in the northwest, Daba town in the South and Xiaxia town in the East. It is 27 kilometers away from Heping County, covering an area of 144.65 square kilometers, including 185000 mu of mountainous area and 12000 mu of cultivated land.

Shangling town is located at the foot of Wuzhi Mountain in Jiulian mountains. Ziyunzhang, the highest peak in the town, is 1009 meters above sea level. The terrain is high in the South and low in the north. Four streams flow into the old city of Dingnan, Jiangxi Province, and then turn to the southeast and pour into Dongjiang River.

Shangling town has high mountains and low mountains in the East, South and West. In the East, there are ziyunzhang (1009 meters), toad Zhang (769 meters), Wuzhishan (828 meters) and Yanyan mountain (829 meters), sanjiangjun (740 meters), Tangdi Zhang (708 meters), Meizi mountain (762 meters) and xianrenqihe (721 meters) in the middle.

Hydrologic River

Shangling town is one of the birthplaces of Dongjiang River. All rivers in the town are outward rivers. The main rivers are Luocun River and Yinhu River, which flow into Yousheng town and flow into Dongjiang River. Shangling River, Cuishan River, Jiangkou River and cenjiang river flow into the old city of Jiangxi and into Dongjiang River.

History and culture

Dinosaur egg fossil

In December 2012, local construction workers accidentally excavated two nests of buried long oval stones in the campus of Shangling Town Central Primary School. After on-site investigation and identification by experts from Guangdong Provincial Institute of cultural relics and archaeology, it was confirmed that these complete long oval stones were dinosaur egg fossils, and their ages were about 60 million years ago. Some of the dinosaur egg fossils collected from Heping County Museum can be seen buried, while others have been stripped out of the rock. The shapes are basically the same. They are long oval, with a long diameter of 12.7-13 cm and a short diameter of 9.5-10 cm. Some eggshells have been broken, but the thickness and degree of fossilization of the eggshells can still be identified. So far, the distribution of "dinosaur egg burial site" in Heyuan extended to the northeast of Guangdong.

Shangling town carries out integrated tourism development planning for Cuishan bamboo sea and other characteristic landscapes to realize a tourist resort integrating leisure and entertainment. As the only project in Heyuan City, Cuishan bamboo sea has entered the "Guangdong Hong Kong investment environment promotion and project docking exchange meeting" submitted by SASAC and Tourism Administration. There are yangshifeng, chenshuikeng and other attractions.
