History and culture

It is said that in the Tang Dynasty, there was a river crossing stone in Longkeng, 2km downstream of the Lan River, which stopped the river. People named it Lan River and later changed it to Lan River.

In October 1935, Gong Chu, the former chief of staff of the military region of the central revolutionary base, defected and led the Kuomintang troops to flee into Beishan under the guise of Red Army guerrillas. He cheated the trust of he Changlin, the director of rear defense of the guerrillas. Without authorization, he issued a notice to the guerrilla cadres and rear defense workers led by Xiang Ying and Chen Yi to attend a meeting in longxishi. The guerrilla cadres who came to the meeting were surrounded, and more than 30 guerrillas died in the breakthrough, which is known as the "Beishan incident" in history.
