Xiayukou Town, located in the south of Anxiang County, is a township level town. It has jurisdiction over 10 administrative villages, 1 rural community neighborhood committee and 1 community neighborhood committee. In the East, it faces Sanchahe town and Wushenggong town of Nanxian County by the Songzi River; in the west, it faces haozigang town of Dingcheng District of Changde City across the end of Lishui River; in the south, it faces Chenjiazui town of benxian County; in the north, it faces Ankang township of benxian county. It is 12 kilometers long from east to west and 7 kilometers wide from north to south. The total area is 80.284 square kilometers, and the rainfall collection area is 120642 mu (including 69338 mu of cultivated land). The total population is 40067, and the population density is 499 per square kilometer. The town people's government is located in yukou underground, 33 kilometers away from the county seat and 70 kilometers away from Changde City.

Anxiang County governs towns. It used to be a fishing port. Because there was shangyukou in the north of the county, it was named Xiayukou. In 1949, it was divided into seven townships: zhulinyuan, chengchengbu, Yongnan, Jiakou, Tianxingzhou, changanju and wanyuzhou. In 1951, it belonged to the Sixth District. In 1956, it was merged into Anwu township. The commune was established in 1958. In 1961, Anwu commune was changed. In 1984, the township was changed to Xiayukou town in September of the same year.

Xiayukou is a town with relatively developed Anxiang education. It has the largest township middle school in the county, a municipal demonstration school and a municipal green Central Primary School, four village primary schools and a central kindergarten.
