Matangshan Township

Matangshan township is located in the northwest border of longhui County, Hunan Province, with an area of 66.7 square kilometers (2017) and an average altitude of about 1300 meters. It is known as "longhui Tibet". It is 105 kilometers away from the county seat and is located at the junction of longhui, Dongkou and Xupu counties. The location advantage is obvious, and the terrain is complex.

Forestry, water conservancy, medicinal materials and other resources are quite rich. It is a famous medicinal material base in China, especially honeysuckle, Atractylodes macrocephala, Achyranthes bidentata, Gastrodia elata and other medicinal materials with the largest quantity, good quality and large terrain difference, which is very convenient for the development of small hydropower. Historical evolution

Matangshan township was merged from the former matangshan Township and Qingshan Township in 1995. It now governs 12 administrative villages, including Xingwuchang, bajiaolou, Jianshan, youxiping, Xuetian, Hengpai, yanzhuping, jiudaoping, Songzhu, qingshanmiao, Qiaojiawan, laoshuxia, and 112 villagers' groups, with a total population of 14059 (2017). The "Yipeng", "Yinxian" and "honeysuckle" won the title of "Hunan Province" Matangshan, one of the top ten agricultural products brands, is rich in natural resources and the people are hardworking and simple. It is a distinctive and vibrant development hot land.

Economic situation

Since the reform and opening up, under the correct leadership of Party committees and governments at all levels, the people of the whole township have further emancipated their minds, paid close attention to practical work, and embarked on a broader road of getting rid of poverty and becoming rich and striving for a well-off life. With honeysuckle, Eucommia ulmoides, Atractylodes macrocephala and Gastrodia elata as key products, the production scale of Chinese herbal medicine has grown. Together with xiaoshajiang Town, huxingshan Yao Township and other neighboring towns, it has become one of the six major Chinese herbal medicine and production bases in China. In 1995, the planting area of Chinese herbal medicine in the township reached 17000 mu, with an output of more than 10000 tons and an output value of nearly 8 million yuan. The sheep, cattle and pig breeding industry has begun to take shape, and the province's sheep breeding base with an annual output of more than 10000 has basically formed. Township enterprises have grown from scratch, especially small hydropower, traditional leather paper processing industry and green enterprises. There are 84 Township, village run, joint-stock cooperative and private enterprises with 1285 employees. In 1995, the total agricultural output value of the township was 14.84 million yuan, the total industrial output value was 5.2 million yuan, the total output value of township enterprises was 8.66 million yuan, and the fiscal revenue was 840000 yuan. While accelerating economic development, remarkable achievements have been made in infrastructure construction. The total area of the township is 8234 mu, and there are two small hydropower stations in the township, with an annual power generation of 4.3 million kilowatt hours. The traffic situation has improved significantly, and 11 villages have been able to build roads. Program controlled telephone and cable TV have been put into operation.

The territory is rich in resources. The mineral resources include tungsten and manganese. The forest area is 63200 mu, and the timber volume is 32000 cubic meters. There is a large amount of water resources and tens of thousands of kilowatts of small hydropower can be developed. The main agricultural and sideline products are rice, corn, malangru, pepper, Chinese herbal medicine, bamboo shoots, Osmunda japonica, peach, watermelon, etc. Among them, kiwi fruit, bamboo shoots, Osmunda japonica, alpine Yunwu Tea and other local products are well-known both inside and outside the province. Matang mountain is also a summer resort. Every midsummer, the climate here is cool, the air is fresh, the honeysuckle all over the mountains overflows with strong fragrance, refreshing.
