Historical evolution

In ancient times, because people surnamed Xiong set up a market town in the territory, "Xiong Ji" got its name. At the beginning of the Republic of China, xiongji was subordinate to NanEr district. In the winter of 1947, after the liberation of Zaoyang, xiongji belonged to xiangzaoyi county. In May 1949, xiangzaoyi county was abolished and ZAONAN county was established. In August of the same year, ZAONAN county was merged into Zaoyang county. In 1952, Zaoyang county was divided into 17 districts, and xiongji was the ninth district.
