Shamao Street

Shamao street is under the jurisdiction of Hannan District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, located in the east of the district. It covers an area of 78.8km2 and has a population of 71724 (2010).

The street governs Weihu Road, Xinlan, Dongjiang, Tongjin, jiangshang, Jiangxia, zhoujiahe, Xingfu, doubu and other communities and administrative villages. The office is located at 353 Hannan Avenue.

It is named after Shamao mountain on the riverside of the area under its jurisdiction. In 1949, it belonged to doubu township of Hanyang county. In 1958, dongchengyuan was restored and dongchengyuan farm was established as the field headquarters. In 1978, Hannan Farm Management Bureau was established as the resident of Hannan Farm Management Bureau, gradually forming a natural market town. After the establishment of Hannan District in 1984, Shamao town was established as the seat of Hannan District government and the Zhujiashan brigade of Wujin farm. In 1986, doubu township was abolished and merged into Shamao town. In 1996, Shamao town covers an area of 37.1 square kilometers and has a population of 45000. It governs five administrative villages of jiangshang, Jiangxia, zhoujiahe, Xingfu and doubu, seven neighborhood committees of liaojiabao, Baihua street, Weihu Road, Yueyue Road, Binjiang Road, Luyuan road and Zhujiashan, and Dazui Township covers an area of 33.5 square kilometers and has a population of 9000. It governs five administrative villages of Dazui, Changjiang, Dongfeng, Dongjiang and Tongjin. In December 1997, Shamao town was abolished and Shamao street was established. In June 2001, Dazui township was abolished and merged into Shamao street. In 2004, the office is located in shamaoshan, with a population of 54800 and an area of 73.75 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over seven neighborhood committees including Baihua street, Binjiang Road, Weihu Road, Zhujiashan, Yueliangwan, Luyuan road and liaojiabao, and 10 administrative villages including Changjiang, Dongfeng, Dazui, Dongjiang, Tongjin, jiangshang, Jiangxia, zhoujiahe, Xingfu and doubu. On January 17, 2005, some areas of the former Wujin office, which reach the Yangtze River embankment in the East, Shamao River in the south, Mayi River in the West and the junction of Hannan District and Caidian District in the north, were classified as Shamao street.
