Zhiyuan sub district was officially established on June 8, 2007. It is a division adjustment for Lixia District to adapt to the "East Expansion" strategy of Jinan City and accelerate the process of rural urbanization. One of the three newly established offices in the former Yaojia town is located at the easternmost end of Lixia District, east of Yaojia street and northeast of Longdong street.

Covering an area of about 25.95 square kilometers, it is adjacent to Lingang Economic Development Zone in the East, Jinan high tech Development Zone in the west, Lianhuashan in the south, Jiaoji Railway in the north, Shidong Road, Gongye South Road, Shiji Avenue and other urban trunk roads, with convenient transportation and excellent geographical location. Under its jurisdiction, there are 7 grassroots administrative villages (residences), with a population of 25845 (in 2010), and more than 60 resident enterprises and institutions. The high-tech and high value-added enterprises in gaoxinlixia Industrial Park are increasing year by year with complete infrastructure construction, thoughtful and orderly management, and good economic development space and potential. The construction of Shengfu District, the No.1 key project of the district Party committee and the district government, is in full swing. The large-scale living community with an area of more than 1 million square meters will be an ideal home and happy place for the relocated households and the nearby villagers in Daming Lake.

According to the spirit of the notice of Jinan Municipal People's Government on the adjustment of some administrative divisions of Lixia District (Jizheng Zi No. 20), the 68th district head office meeting of Jinan Municipal People's government decided to abolish the organizational system of Yaojia town and set up Yaojia sub district office, Zhiyuan sub district office and Longdong sub district office in the original administrative area of Yaojia town. The specific matters are hereby notified as follows:

1、 The original Yaojia town yaojiazhuang, dongshilihe, Dingjiazhuang, jiangshuiquanzhuang, jingshanzhuang and other five natural villages are under the jurisdiction of Yaojia sub district office, which is located in yaojiazhuang. In addition, according to relevant regulations (luzhenghanminzi (1990) No. 17, jizhenghan (1990) No. 22, lixiazhengfa No. 27), Yaojia sub district office is in charge of yaotouzhuang and renhezhuang under the jurisdiction of dianliuxin village sub district office.

2、 Seven natural villages in Yaojia Town, including liuzhiyuan, bajianbao, shengfuzhuang, jiangjiazhuang, dengjiazhuang, Yihezhuang and linjiazhuang, are under the jurisdiction of Zhiyuan sub district office, which is located in liuzhiyuan village.

3、 Seven natural villages in Yaojia Town, including longdongzhuang, mengjiazhuang, laoshigou, xijiangyu, shiheling, zhongjingzhuang and Xiajingzhuang, are under the jurisdiction of Longdong sub district office.
