Pengtian Township

Pengtian Township, belonging to Linchuan District, Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, is located at the junction of Nancheng County, Jinxi County and Linchuan county. It is located in the southeast of Linchuan District, adjacent to Fuhe River in the East. It is a hilly area with high terrain in the South and low terrain in the North. It is 41 kilometers away from Fuzhou City, with a total area of 65 square kilometers, and a registered residence of 14 thousand and 500 people (2018). It has 1 communities and 9 administrative villages (2019). Pengtian township is the hometown of Chen Jitai, a talented man in Linchuan in the late Ming Dynasty.

Historical evolution

Pengtian is named after the auspicious prime minister in the field.

In 1941, pengtian Township and Qitang Township were merged into Qitian township.

After the founding of new China, it belongs to the Sixth District of Linchuan county (Tengqiao District).

In 1958, pengtian was subordinate to Tengqiao commune, which was demolished several times and established in 1971.

In May 1984, it was renamed pengtian township.

Pengtian township is located in the southeast of Linchuan District, 41 kilometers away from Fuzhou City. It is adjacent to Fuhe River in the East, Shimen township of Jinxi County across the river, yuekou township of Nancheng County in the south by Ma'an mountains, Tengqiao town in the west, and qingni in the northeast. The total area of the township is 65 square kilometers.

History and culture

Chen Jitai, the first of the "four great talents in Linchuan" in the Ming Dynasty, was born in pengtian township. There is an ancient tomb and a statue of Chen Jitai. There is a fair on every single day of the lunar calendar, and a temple fair on August 16 of the lunar calendar.

Liaofang reservoir

Liaofang reservoir, located in pengtian Township, is the largest water conservancy project in Fuzhou City. On both sides of the Liaofang River (Fu River), there are fantastic mountains, which are the wonders of the Three Gorges.

Ancient tombs, archways, houses and streets

Chen Jitai's ancient tomb is made of eight pieces of Qingma stone. There is a pair of powerful stone lions in front of the tombstone, and there are four gateposts in front of the stone lions. According to textual research, there are stone steps in the middle, which go up to the front of the tomb. There is a statue of Chen Jitai in Chenfang primary school. There are ancient archways, houses and streets in Chenfang village. Before entering the ancient house, the first thing you can see is a stone carving. The Shimen CCTV-1 and CCTV-2 once sent special personnel to take pictures for more than ten days. The Chenfang temple fair on July 12 every year is the proof of the old street.

Xiangshan Temple

On the hillside of Xiangshan Mountain in Yujia village, pengtian Township, there is an ancient temple, which is as magnificent as Jinxi Shushan temple. It is said that Shushan temple was built in imitation of Xiangshan temple. It can be seen that Xiangshan temple is much earlier and more unique than Shushan temple. During the cultural revolution, temples were looted and monks were driven away. Some people who disobey the common customs are starved to death. Xiangshan temple only left some incomplete debris.

Local specialties

"Pengtian watermelon" is famous both inside and outside the province, and "the hometown of watermelon" is worthy of its name.
