Taosha town

Taosha town is located in the southeast of Fengcheng City. It has jurisdiction over two market towns, namely Taosha and Dengwei, 21 Village (neighborhood) committees, 198 natural villages and 265 village groups. The total area of the town is 176.6 square kilometers, with a permanent resident population of 34862 people (in 2017), and a forest coverage rate of 65%. There are 42 small (II) type reservoirs, known as "Six Mountains and half water, two fields, half roads and manors". It has unique advantages in resources, geography, transportation and culture. Every village in the town has cement roads. Commodity trade is very active and agricultural products are naturally green. It is an important town for high-quality rice production in Fengcheng City.

Evolution of organizational system

Taosha town is the settlement and breeding place of Jiangyou people. It has a long history. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, some ancestors settled in Longtang village beside Taosha market town. in the early period of the northern and Southern Dynasties (420), it was found that there was gold in the nearby stream sand, so gold miners from far and near came here to set up sheds for gold, and gradually the business and service industries rose, forming a rural market town, hence the name of Taosha. After 1932, Taosha town was under the jurisdiction of the fourth district and Jiandong district. After liberation in May 1949, it was under the jurisdiction of the Sixth District, Taosha district and Dushi district. In October 1958, Taosha people's Commune and Zhushan people's commune were established. In October 1961, it was divided into three communes: Taosha commune, Zhushan commune and yankeng commune. In 1964, Zhushan and yankeng communes were merged into Taosha commune. In 1965, it was divided into two communes: Taosha commune and Zhushan commune. In 1968, it was merged into a commune in Taosha. In 1981, social organizations were withdrawn to build townships, and in 1998, townships were withdrawn to build towns.
