Xinxi Township

Xinxi township is a township under the jurisdiction of Yushui District, Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province. Located at the easternmost end of Yushui District, known as the "East Gate" of Yushui District, it is 50km away from the urban area, bordering Xingan County in the East, Nan'an Township in the south, Yaowei in the west, Yuanhe in the north and Changfu town in Zhangshu City. The township has 11 administrative villages, 56 natural villages and 100 villager groups, covering an area of 44 square kilometers, with a total population of 9431 (2017).

Historical evolution

It got its name from sixiwu, and was renamed Xinxi during the census. Before liberation, it belonged to Sixi Township, the seventh district. At the beginning of liberation, it belonged to Xitan Township, Longxi Township and Shuangxi Township in Yaowei district. Sixi township was established in 1956, merged into Yaowei commune in 1958, established in 1960 and changed into Xinxi Township in September 1983. In 1997, it covers an area of 44 square kilometers and has a population of 13000. It governs 14 administrative villages including Chengtou, Mingxing, Fuxing, Xijiang, Houxi, Zhufang, Baihu, Junxi, Aojia, Shaoling, longweizhou, Dali, Louxia and Sixi.
