Shishan Township

Shishan township is a township under the jurisdiction of Duchang County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. There are mountains in the territory, named "lion mountain" for the scenery of "lion roaring the moon", and villages are named for the mountains.

Shishan township is located in the southeast of the county, on the shore of Poyang Lake, connecting Zhongguan and Xiangxi in the East, wanhu in the south, Zhouxi, Xiyuan and Sanchagang in the distance, Tutang in the west, tiaoming mountain in the north, and 35 kilometers away from the county. The total area of the township is 48.3 square kilometers. The territory is mostly the fourth century red soil with deep and fertile soil.

Historical evolution

Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, it belongs to Changlong township of Linhu district. At the beginning of the founding of the people's Republic of China, it belonged to two townships, Doushan and Changlong, the Sixth District. In 1958, it belonged to Shuangqiao commune. In 1962, Shishan commune was established. In the north of the territory, Shishan is like a lion. The commune is named after this mountain. In 1984, the township was changed. In 1997, with an area of 52 square kilometers and a population of 16000, it has jurisdiction over eight administrative villages, namely Changling, zhuluan, Dalong, Laowu, Zhuling, Doushan, Badu and Shishan.

It has jurisdiction over Doushan neighborhood committee, 9 village committees including Shishan, Changlong, zhuluan, Dalong, Laowu, Zhuling, Badu and Laoshe, as well as forest farm, tea farm and aquatic farm. Agriculture is the main industry, with rice, cotton, rape and so on.

Economic overview

Shishan township is mostly low slope barren mountains with large area of dry land. It is rich in rice, soybean, peanut, sesame, tea, sweet potato, Camellia oleifera, yellow mast and Eucommia ulmoides. "Shishan peanut" has registered trademark and is listed on the market, with well-balanced texture and abundant reserves. It is the first-class decorative building material, and the ore reserves can reach 8 million cubic meters. Since 2002, the township vigorously implemented the project of returning farmland to forest, so far it has formed a new image of "forestry Shishan" with a total area of 8078.5 mu, including 2723.6 mu of woody medicinal materials such as yellow mast and Eucommia ulmoides and 2816 mu of slash pine.

Shishan township has a history of planting black sesame for hundreds of years, aiming at the market and vigorously developing the production of black sesame. The annual output reaches several hundred thousand jin. In addition to domestic sales, it is also exported to Southeast Asia and other countries in the world. Black sesame has the functions of moistening the lung, tonifying the kidney, blackening the hair and nourishing the face. Long service, light weight and anti-aging. Modern scientific research has proved that black sesame is a top-grade food for health care and beauty. The international market price keeps rising, and the market sales are good.

Duchang sesame oil factory has successfully developed Lushan brand sesame oil by making full use of Shishan black sesame. After national identification, the sesame oil has reached the first-class standard and won the provincial grain and oil science and technology achievement award, municipal excellent new product award and science and technology progress award. The products are exported to Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and other places. Black sesame has a wide range of uses. People use black sesame to make all kinds of delicious food. Glutinous rice dumplings use black sesame, sweet scented osmanthus and sugar wrapped heart. In addition to producing black sesame, the township also produces white sesame and red sesame.

Lion mountain has a special geographical location and a long history. It has left many beautiful legends and many developed landscapes, such as seven fairy mounds, Dagu mounds, ximajian, Mopan Mountain, Xianren pit, Baimajing relics, etc. the Houyue temple on the top of lion mountain, which is famous for its high position and strong fragrance, can enjoy the scenery of Pohu lake and the appearance of Duchang low hills.
