Zhongling Township

Zhongling township is subordinate to Jinxian County, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. It is located in the northeast of Jinxian County, on the South Bank of Junshan lake, 26 kilometers away from the county. It borders Dongxiang County of Fuzhou in the East and south, and Yugan County of Shangrao in the northeast across the Xinjiang River. It is historically known as the border of "three prefectures and three counties".

The total land area of the township is 131.7 square kilometers, with 60000 mu of cultivated land, including 16000 mu of dry land and 40000 mu of paddy field. The water surface area is 18000 mu, and the mountain forest area is 67000 mu. The township has 14 village committees and 1 neighborhood committee with a total population of 21205 (2017). The per capita net income of farmers in the township increased from 2869 yuan in 2005 to 5714 yuan in 2010.

Historical evolution

At the end of the Tang Dynasty, a general surnamed Zhong was buried here after his death and built a mausoleum, so it is called Zhongling. After liberation, it belonged to the ninth district. It was Shiling Township in 1956. Zhongling commune was set up in 1958. It was incorporated into shishiling reclamation farm in 1959. Zhongling commune was set up in 1969 and established in 1984. In 1997, it covers an area of 117.3 square kilometers and has a population of 22000. It has jurisdiction over 14 administrative villages including Xiangli, Sanan, Tiannan, Longquan, Dongtang, Pengqiao, Chayuan, compass, Dongxi, Xiawan, Shengjia, Yingtang, Caifang and Zhongling. The township government is stationed in zhonglingqiao, 29 kilometers away from the county. On the eve of liberation, 70% of the township belonged to Zhongling Township, 30% to Tanjin Township, Runxi Township and Deqiao township. After liberation, Zhongling, Kuanchang, Pengqiao, Runxi, Shiling, Longquan and other townships belonged to the ninth district. After 1956, the townships merged into Shiling township. Zhongling commune was established in 1958 (Compass and other places belong to shililing reclamation farm). In 1959, Zhongling commune was incorporated into shihiling reclamation farm, which was called Zhongling branch and compass branch respectively. Compass commune was established in 1961. In October 1968, shishiling reclamation farm and compass commune were merged into Zhongling commune. In 1984, it was renamed Zhongling Township People's government.

Zhongling township is located in the northeast of Jinxian County, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, on the South Bank of Junshan lake. Zhongling memorial archway

Located at the bridgehead of Zhongling bridge, the memorial archway of Zhongling is a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit, belonging to Ming Dynasty architecture. It is said that the wife of Hu Yangting, a Confucian doctor in Zhangfang village, was widowed at the age of 20. She was chaste and devoted to her elders. She praised the local officials, the gentry and the Hu family for her "chastity and frost", and asked for an order to build a memorial archway for her. The archway is made of stone (mostly gneiss), with two middle pillars as the main pillars, and two pillars are erected on both sides of the East and the west, each with a side length of 2 meters and a bottom length of 3.5 meters. The shape of the archway is peculiar. When viewed from the top, the six pillars are arranged into two opposite isosceles triangles, and when viewed from the side, the archway is shaped like a long Pavilion. On both sides of the crossbeam, the words "honoring Hu Yangting's wife, a Confucian scholar, for Hu's filial piety" are engraved with relief patterns. There are two beams on the top and 4.7 meters of the column. Between the two beams, there is a plain stone slab. The stone slab is 1.7 meters long and 0.85 meters wide. There are four characters "Jie Lin Bing Shuang" on the horizontal, and the official positions and names of several persons related to the construction of the square on the reverse.
