Historical evolution

The origin of place names

It is located in Zhangtang village, hence its name. According to legend, there was a big camphor tree in ancient times. When the 15th month was full, the shadow of the tree was reflected in the pond hundreds of meters away. The scenery was beautiful, so the village was named Zhangtang.

Evolution of organizational system

In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to zhangtangbao, the fifth capital of Zhao'an, with three villages of Zhangtang, qianma'an and xiaweiyang under its jurisdiction; in the Republic of China, it belonged to the unified experimental township of Dongshan County, with three guarantees of Zhangdong, Zhangxi and Zhangzhong; after liberation, it belonged to the third District Office in 1950; from 1959 to 1961, it merged with Kangmei commune; in 1961, it established Zhangtang commune, which was originally located in Zhangtang village and moved to the foot of Yangjiao mountain at the end of 1974 In 1993, it was changed into Zhangtang town.
