Laozhou Township

Laozhou Township, Tongling City, Anhui Province, surrounded by water, is an independent River Center. It faces Wusong town across the river in the East, Wuwei County and Zongyang County in the West. It governs five village committees, 123 villager groups and 14000 people. There are three dikes in the township, of which Laozhou dikes are 17.5km long, with two independent dikes of Xingfu and Chengde. The transportation is developed in the prefecture, and the east-west and North-South highways crisscross. Rich in vegetables, cotton, rape and peanuts.

In 2003, Laozhou township was rated as the municipal pollution-free vegetable demonstration base, and the township agricultural science and technology demonstration park was rated as the municipal "double cultivation and double belt" pioneer demonstration base.

Private economy is developing rapidly. The processing private enterprises represented by Jiangzhou carpet making, Shengqing agricultural trade and Yusong plate factory are rising rapidly. By the end of 2004, there were 450 private enterprises in the township, with a total output value of 47.6 million yuan, operating income of 43 million yuan and profits and taxes of 5.59 million yuan. Private economy has become an important part of the development of rural economy.

The living standards of farmers have been improved significantly. The income of farmers increased rapidly from 2798 yuan in 2003 to 3090 yuan, an increase of 12%. The per capita living area is 27 square meters, with 1358 sanitary toilets, 1972 program-controlled telephones, 95% tap water and 90% cable TV network coverage.

Tourism culture

Laozhou township has a good natural ecology and beautiful environment. Zhoutou Taiyang island is famous both inside and outside the city. "Sun Island" is a famous tourist attraction in the city. It is located in Guanghui village, Zhoutou, Laozhou Township, covering an area of about 4000 mu. It is composed of three natural landscapes, namely fangcaoping, yangliulin and Jinshatan. The beautiful scenery is interwoven and picturesque. It has been included in the city's overall tourism planning. "Taiyang island" faces the river on three sides. From the dike to the south, there are 1000 mu of pasture, 1000 mu of Italian poplar forest and 1500 mu of golden beach.
