Tongyu street is located in Luqiao District, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is the "green heart" planning center of Taizhou city. In April 2002, it was changed from a built-up town to a street. It is one of the "three districts and five towns" in Taizhou city. In 2010, the population was 42149 (2010). In 2016, the number of households was 10036, and the registered residence population was 37079.

General situation

It is located in the south of Taizhou Ring Road (Tongyu section), 5km away from Luqiao urban area and 10km away from Huangyan urban area. It is the combination zone between Luqiao and Huangyan. It forms two wings with Taizhou "green heart" ecotourism development zone and echoes each other from afar. The total planning area of plastic industry base is 750 mu, which is planned to be implemented in three phases in five years. Tongyu town is one of the main loquat producing areas in China. According to historical records, loquat was cultivated in this town during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. The loquat planting area is 7200 mu. In 1997, the total loquat output of the town reached 4078 tons, accounting for 1 / 4 of the national output in that year, becoming the first pillar industry of the town. In 1996, Tongyu town was named "the hometown of loquat in China" by the Ministry of agriculture. In 2000, Tongyu town was awarded the title of "loquat town" by the provincial forestry department, which was listed in the list of the first provincial forestry specialty towns.
