Fuling District Fuling District is one of the districts under the jurisdiction of Chongqing. It is located in the middle of Chongqing and the hinterland of the Three Gorges Reservoir area. It is located at the intersection of the Yangtze River and Wujiang River. Economically, it is at the junction of the Yangtze River economic belt, Wujiang mainstream development zone and Wuling Mountain poverty alleviation and development zone. It is the core city of Chongqing one hour economic circle, the central city in the southeast of Chongqing, and the central city in the east of Chengdu Chongqing Economic Zone.
The word Fuling is taken from "the shore of Fuling River, the mausoleum of Bawang". During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, it was the capital of Ba state. In the 30th year of emperor Zhaoxiang of Qin Dynasty (277 BC), Zhixian county was established.
On March 14, 1997, Fuling City, Wanxian city and Qianjiang District of Sichuan Province were merged into the newly established Chongqing Municipality. On December 20, 1997, with the approval of the general office of the CPC Central Committee and the general office of the State Council, Fuling City, Zhicheng district and Lidu district were abolished and Fuling District of Chongqing was established.
By the end of 2019, the built-up area of Fuling City will reach 72.01 square kilometers, with an urban population of 816500, making it the largest city in the Wujiang River Basin.
Fuling District's specialties mainly include Fuling pickled mustard, Fuling red heart radish, Fuling oil mash, etc.; scenic spots mainly include Baiheliang, Wuling Rift Valley, Wuling Mountain National Forest Park, damuhua Valley, 816 nuclear military cave, etc.
Historical evolution
From the Xia and Shang Dynasties to the early spring and Autumn period, it was the residence of Pu people; from the middle and late spring and Autumn period to the middle Warring States period, it was Zhidi of Ba state, which successively established its capital in Zhizhou, Jiangzhou (now Jiangbei District of Chongqing) and Dianjiang (now Hechuan); from the middle and late Warring States period, it was Zhiyi of Chu state.
In the 27th year of emperor Zhaoxiang of Qin Dynasty (280 BC), Sima CuO attacked Chu and occupied Central Guizhou. Zhiyi belonged to Qin Dynasty. In the thirtieth year of emperor Zhaoxiang of Qin Dynasty (277 BC), Zhixian county was established in Zhiyi of Chu, which was the beginning of Zhixian county. In the 26th year of the first emperor (221 BC), there were thirty-six counties in the world. Zhixian County belonged to Bajun prefecture (Jiangzhou County, now Jiangbei District of Chongqing).
In the fifth year of emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC), the Han Dynasty destroyed the Western Chu, and Liu Bang became emperor. He still set up Bajun, which belongs to Zhixian county.
In the second year of Yongyuan (90 years) of the Eastern Han Dynasty, it was divided into Zhixian county and Pingdu County.
In 249, the 12th year of Yanxi reign of Shu Han in the Three Kingdoms, Zhixian county was divided into Hanping county (governing today's Yalong town) and Fuling county (governing today's Pengshui Yushan Town).
In the third year of Yonghe (347) of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Huanwen leveled Shu. Because of Fuling, the county was destroyed by the war. The overseas Chinese in Zhixian County of Bajun set up Fujun (also known as Zhicheng county), which was the beginning of setting up the county in the region. In the second year of Yuanxi (420), Zhicheng county was abandoned and Zhixian county was subordinate to Bajun county. Fuling county was set up again to govern Fuling county (now Pengshui County).
In the first year of Baoding in the Northern Zhou Dynasty (561), Zhixian county was withdrawn into Baxian county. In the fourth year of Baoding (564), he moved Fuling county to Hanping county (now Pengshui Yushan Town); in the same year, Fuling town was established in Guzhi county.
In 583, Fuling county was abolished and Hanping county was transferred to Fuling town. In the same year, Yuzhou was abolished and Hanping county was transferred to Yuzhou. In 594, Hanping county was changed into Fuling county. In the third year of Daye (607), Yuzhou was changed into Bajun, which belonged to Fuling county.
In the first year of Wude (618) of Tang Dynasty, Bajun was rebuilt as Yuzhou, which was divided into two parts: Yuzhou was located in Fuling County, which governed Fuling County, Lewen county (now Changshou town), Wulong county (now Wulong Tukan town), Kuizhou prefecture (now Fengjie town), and later Longhua County (now Nanchuan county) and Wenshan county (now Changshou Northeast Town). In the first year of Zhenguan (627), Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty divided the world into ten roads according to the shape of mountains and rivers, and Fuzhou belonged to Shannan Road (governing Xiangzhou, now Xiangyang). In the second year of Jingyun (711 AD), Shannan road was divided into Shannan East Road and Shannan West Road because of its wide area. Fuzhou belonged to Shannan West Road (zhiliangzhou, now Hanzhong). In the first year of Tianbao (742), the Prefecture was changed into a county, and the county was set up as a prefect, so Fuling county was set up. In the second year of the Shang Yuan Dynasty (761), Li Shannan Dongdao (governing Xiangzhou) was changed. In the first year of Qianyuan (758), it was renamed Fuzhou. Yuanhe three years (808), change Li Qianzhong Road (governing Qianzhou, now Pengshui Yushan Town).
In the Northern Song Dynasty, it was set up in Fuzhou, with the establishment of the same Tang Dynasty, belonging to Kuizhou Road (governing Fengjie today). In 1070, Wenshan County was transferred to Fuling county.
In the Southern Song Dynasty, it was set up in Fuzhou, which was still Kuizhou Road, and governed Fuling county and Wulong county.
In the Yuan Dynasty, it was located in Fuzhou, Chongqing Road, xingzhongshu Province, Sichuan Province, with jurisdiction over Wulong county. In the 20th year of the Zhiyuan Dynasty (1283), the province and county entered the prefecture, so Fuling county was withdrawn, and Lewen county was withdrawn from the Prefecture in the same year.
In the Ming Dynasty, it was established in Fuzhou, which belonged to Chongqing government under the jurisdiction of Wulong county. In 1380, Wulong county was changed into Wulong county.
In the Qing Dynasty, it was set up in Fuzhou, which belongs to the government of Chongqing, but not the county. In the first year of Kangxi (1662), Wulong county was withdrawn into Fuzhou.
At the beginning of the Republic of China (1913), Fuling county was changed into Fuling County, which was subordinate to Chuandong road and the eighth District of Sichuan Province. In May 1941, the Fifth District of Fuling county was designated as Wulong bureau because of its vast territory. In 1944, Fuling county was divided into Wulong county.
Fuling was liberated on November 28, 1949. In January 1950, Fuling District was set up, with jurisdiction over Fuling, Nanchuan, Fengdu, shilao, Wulong, Changshou and Pengshui counties, and subordinate to the administrative district of Eastern Sichuan.
In September 1952, Eastern Sichuan administrative region was withdrawn and merged with southern Sichuan administrative region, northern Sichuan administrative region and Western Sichuan administrative region to form Sichuan Province. Fuling special region was changed into Sichuan Province.
In December 1952, Youyang special area was removed into Fuling special area. In March 1953, Dianjiang County, the former Dazhu special area, was divided into Fuling special area. Fuling special area has jurisdiction over Youyang, Qianjiang, Xiushan and Dianjiang counties. In November 1952 and January 1953, Changshou county was first divided into Chongqing City, and then returned to Fuling District. In April 1959, Changshou county was once again included in Chongqing.
In September 1968, Fuling area was rebuilt. In September 1983, Fuling county was removed and Fuling City (county level) was established.
In May 1988, Qianjiang district was set up in five counties of Qianjiang, Youyang, Xiushan, Pengshui and Shizhu. Fuling District governs Fuling City, Nanchuan County, Fengdu County, Dianjiang County and Wulong county. In June 1994, Nanchuan county was removed and Nanchuan City (county level) was set up, which was managed by Fuling City.
In January 1996, Fuling City (county level) was removed and Zhicheng district and Lidu district were established.
In March 1996, Fuling District was removed from Fuling District to establish a prefecture level Fuling City, which governs Zhicheng District, Lidu District, Dianjiang County, Fengdu County and Wulong County, and takes charge of Nanchuan City.
In September 1996, Fuling City was put under the management of Chongqing City, a city under separate planning in Sichuan Province.
On March 14, 1997, Chongqing became a municipality directly under the central government, and the former Fuling City, Wanxian city and Qianjiang area of Sichuan Province were incorporated into Chongqing. On December 20, 1997, with the approval of the general office of the CPC Central Committee and the general office of the State Council, the original Fuling City, Zhicheng district and Lidu district were abolished and Fuling District of Chongqing was established. Fuling District of Chongqing has jurisdiction over the former Zhicheng district and Lidu district. Nanchuan City, Dianjiang County, Fengdu County and Wulong County, which were originally under the jurisdiction of Fuling City, were transferred to the direct jurisdiction of Chongqing.
In May 2008, Fuling District abolished Lidu Town, Longqiao Town, Baitao Town, Zhen'an Town, Baozi Town, Zhihan Town, Shilong Township, Zhongfeng Township, Renyi Township, Conglin Township, tudipo Township, Tiantai Township, Quandong Township, shanwo Township, Zili Township, hotel Township, Huimin Township, Taihe Township, Jubao Township, Xincun Township, Shihe Township and Lianghui Township, and established Lidu street, Longqiao street and Baitao street; Adjust the administrative areas of Chongyi street, Dunren street, Lizhi street, Jiangdong Street, Jiangbei street, Yihe Town, Baisheng Town, Jiaoshi Town, Zhenxi Town, Qingxi Town, Mawu Town, Longtan Town, Xinmiao Town, Shituo Town, Linshi town and Tongle township; change the name of Ming hometown to Dashun township; retain the administrative areas of NANTUO Town, Qingyang Town, Zengfu Township, Luoyun Township, Damu Township and Wulingshan township The regional and government locations remain unchanged.
In June 2016, Fuling District adjusted the jurisdiction of Yihe Town, Lidu street and office, and added Ma'an street. After the adjustment, Yihe town governs 16 villages (communities), and the town government is located at 88 Xingyi South Road (original site); Lidu Street governs 19 villages (communities), and the sub district office is located at 36 Zhiyuan Road (original Zhihan town government site); Ma'an Street governs 20 communities, and the sub district office is located at 6 Hefeng Avenue (original Fuling new urban management committee office building). After the adjustment, Fuling District has jurisdiction over 9 streets, 12 towns and 6 townships.

Fuling District is located in the southeast edge of Sichuan Basin, between 29 ° 21 ′ n to 30 ° 01 ′ N and 106 ° 56 ′ e to 107 ° 43 ′ e, covering an area of 2941.46 square kilometers.
