Chengmai County, a county administrative division directly under the central government of Hainan Province

Chengmai County is located in the northwest of Hainan Island, a county around the Beibu Gulf city group, adjacent to the provincial capital Haikou City. It has been more than 2000 years since it was established in the first year of Yuanfeng (110 BC) of the Western Han Dynasty. It is one of the three famous historical cities in Hainan during the Western Han Dynasty (i.e. tortoiseshell, purple shell and chicory). The population of the county is about 560000, with a land area of 2076 square kilometers and a sea area of 1100 square kilometers. Haiyu central and Western trunk lines, West Island Ring Expressway, Middle Line Expressway, ring expressway, Guangdong Hainan railway and west ring high speed railway all pass through the territory.

Chengmai County has won more than 60 national honors, such as "the town of longevity in the world", "China's famous green county", "China's best leisure tourism county", "China's beautiful rural construction demonstration county", "ten famous tourism counties with cultural characteristics", "national health county", etc. In March 2017, he was shortlisted in the list of "2017 top 100 deep breathing small cities". In March 2019, it was listed as the first batch of revolutionary cultural relics protection and utilization area sub County list. On February 2, 2019, it was rated as the county-level advanced unit of Chinese medicine by the State Administration of traditional Chinese medicine. On July 29, 2020, it will be included in the list of national health towns (counties) to be reconfirmed in 2019.

In 2019, the GDP of Chengmai County will reach 33.018 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.0%. By industry, the added value of the primary industry was 8.551 billion yuan, up 4.6% year on year; the added value of the secondary industry was 8.690 billion yuan, up 2.8% year on year; the added value of the tertiary industry was 15.776 billion yuan, up 8.6% year on year.

Chengmai County has a history of 2108 years from its establishment to 1998. In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC) of the Western Han Dynasty, Nanyue was pacified. In the first year of Yuanfeng (110 BC), zhuya and daner counties were set up on Hainan Island, with 16 counties and more than 23000 households. They were under the jurisdiction of Jiaozhi history department. From then on, Hainan Island was officially included in the territory of the Western Han Dynasty. Zhuya county is divided into 11 counties: Shendu, Zibei, gouzhong, Daimao, Yanlu, Shannan and Linzhen, and the remaining 4 counties are unknown. Daner county is divided into five counties. Gouzhong county is under the jurisdiction of zhuya county. The county is governed by Dabin Village (formerly known as Shiling village or Shiling Village) of TANKOU village committee, Longtang Town, Qiongshan City, and Dongtan village, Zuntan Town, Qiongshan city. Gouzhong county is located in nashedu (now the northeast corner of Meiting township). After the establishment of zhuya County in the Western Han Dynasty, because the local people could not bear to be forced to levy and collect money, there were many "rebellions".

In the third year of the Yuan Dynasty in the early Western Han Dynasty (46 BC), the imperial court abolished all the counties in Hainan Island and set up Zhulu County in the mainland to lead Hainan (only 65 years after gouzhong county was established), before the whip of the central feudal dynasty, Hainan became a "free island".

In 540, Mrs. Xian of Gaoliang County asked the court to set up Yazhou in the hometown of daner, Hainan Province, to govern Hainan Island, ending the 600 year history of "free island" in Hainan.

Sui Daye three years (607), in the old gouzhong County Li Chengmai County, is zhuya county. The name of Chengmai County began from then on. In 622, Chengmai County governed four townships, changed zhuya County into Yazhou, and Chengmai was subordinate to Yazhou. In 631, the fifth year of Zhenguan of Tang Dynasty, Qiongshan of Yazhou was set up as Qiongzhou, and the name of Qiongzhou began from then on. Chengmai still belongs to Yazhou. In the 13th year of Zhenguan of Tang Dynasty (639), three counties, zengkou, Yanluo and rongqiong, were set up in Qiongshan and Chengmai. In the second year of Qianfeng reign of Tang Dynasty (667), except Linji County, Qiongzhou and five counties including Qiongshan, zengkou, Yanluo, rongqiong and Lehui were occupied by Li people.
