Huangshan District Huangshan District is located in the south of Anhui Province, embracing the whole Huangshan Scenic Area, and the central city is located in the north of the scenic area. Huangshan District, formerly known as Taiping County, was upgraded to Huangshan City (county) in 1983. In 1987, Huangshan City (prefecture) was established in Huizhou. Huangshan City (county) retained its full name of administrative division and became Huangshan City (jurisdiction) Huangshan District. Huangshan District is closely related to Huangshan. The north gate of Huangshan scenic spot is located in gengcheng Town, the east gate is located in Tanjiaqiao Town, the south gate is located in Tangkou Town, and the west gate is located in Jiaocun town. Gantang, Xianyuan, sankou and other towns under its jurisdiction can directly observe the peaks of Huangshan. In November 1987, Tunxi city and Huangshan City were abolished and Huangshan City (prefecture level) was established. Huangshan District of Huangshan City was established, with the former Huangshan City as its administrative region.

The terrain is high in the South and low in the north. The highest is Lianhua peak of Huangshan Mountain, with an altitude of 1864 meters; the lowest is Shengfeng village of Xinfeng Township, with an altitude of 85 meters.
Huangshan District has a subtropical monsoon humid climate. It has four distinct seasons, abundant rainfall and remarkable microclimate characteristics. The annual average temperature is 15.4 ℃, the average temperature in the hottest month (July) is 27.4 ℃, the average temperature in the coldest month (January) is 2.8 ℃, and the frost free period is 210-230 days.
The rivers in Huangshan District belong to Qiantang River system and Yangtze River system. Except for Fuxi and Ruanxi on the southern slope of Huangshan Mountain, other rivers, such as Xiangxi, machuan, Qingxi, Yangxi, Shuxi, Zhuxi and Lingyang, flow into Taiping Lake or Qingyi River and then into the Yangtze River.
Up to 2004, a total of 19 kinds of minerals and 77 mineral deposits have been found in Huangshan District. As of 2004, there are nearly 100 species of wild plants in Huangshan District, including Quercus acutissima, Quercus microphylla, Quercus variabilis, Liquidambar formosana, Populus dalbergii, sassafras, Sophora japonica, Pistacia chinensis, Pterocarpus stenoptera, Chinese Toona, Ailanthus altissima, elm, Liriodendron chinense, Cunninghamia lanceolata, Pinus massoniana, Pinus taiwanensis, fortunei fortunei, Cephalotaxus fortunei, Taxus chinensis, toosendan, Phoebe serrulata, Phellodendron fortunei, cyclocaryophylla fortunei, Cortex Phellodendri Zizyphus jujuba, Gleditsia sinensis, Erythrina, Tilia, Zelkova, Ginkgo biloba, juniper, wangchunhua, leopard Cinnamomum camphora, Eucommia ulmoides, Magnolia officinalis, jujube peel, etc.
There are more than 70 species of wild animals including mammals, 170 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles and 20 species of amphibians. There are macaque, muntjac, Sumen antelope, tapir, Silver Pheasant, acacia, woodpecker, frog, egret, mallard and so on.
