Personal distance is the distance with a sense of propriety in interpersonal distance, less direct physical contact. Personal distance range from 1.5 to 2.5 feet (46 to 76 cm), just can shake hands with each other, friendly conversation. It's a space to interact with acquaintances. Strangers entering this distance will constitute aggression against others. Personal distance ranges from 2.5 to 4 feet (76 to 122 cm). Any friend or acquaintance can enter the space freely. However, under normal circumstances, the more harmonious acquaintances keep the distance closer to the close (2.5 feet) end of the far range, while the conversation between strangers is closer to the far (4 feet) end of the far range.
In interpersonal communication, intimate distance and personal distance are usually used in informal social situations, while social distance is used in formal social situations.
