Techniques for stopping unnecessary arguments

When discussing a certain problem, due to the different knowledge, literacy and social experience of the participants, they have different perspectives on the problem, so the solutions to the problem are also different.

Participants tend to hold their own opinions and argue with each other. This is a manifestation of in-depth discussion at the meeting and a good sign of the beginning of the meeting. But when the point of view has become centralized and clear, the host should stop the debate in time. If both sides of the argument have deviated from the topic, the moderator should wait for an opportunity to stop it, or say that the time is limited, not to discuss it in depth for the time being, or talk about it first and indirectly stop it. In the face of more intense debate, the moderator should always pay attention to the fact that some debaters will be emotional, insinuate, ridicule, and bring up old things again. The moderator of the meeting should timely and positively remind and admonish these phenomena, so as to avoid the intensification of contradictions and causing quarrels and conflicts. If there is a quarrel, the moderator should stop it directly from the organization and discipline of the meeting; if necessary, he should make serious criticism on the hurtful words to balance the fairness of the participants.

In addition, the host should not turn a blind eye to the phenomenon of the participants' inattention, "meeting in the meeting" and late and early leave. Instead, the host should greet the participants and give appropriate hints. The tone should be calm and weighty. At the beginning of the meeting, the host may as well put forward certain requirements, assign certain tasks and put some work pressure on the participants, so as to prevent them from having nothing to do and having nothing to do with themselves.
