With the support of the government and the support of the majority of Muslims, the construction of Yongning mosque was finally broken on December 25, 2007. The new temple was completed ahead of schedule on December 5, 2008. In less than a year, a building with Arabic characteristics and Chinese classical traditional pattern has sprung up.
Historical evolution
The original site is in Donglai Street "fish market", so it is also called "Donglai Street Mosque", which was destroyed in the war at the end of Yuan Dynasty. During the Yongli period of the Ming Dynasty (1647-1661), it was rebuilt and renamed "Yongning mosque". According to the inscriptions, the scale of the mosque is the largest among the mosques in the provincial wall, but it was destroyed by the Qing army's suppression of the Hui uprising in 1856. The existing Yongning mosque was rebuilt in 1898. In 2007, the wooden structure building was transformed and completed ahead of schedule in December 2008.
Scale system
Kunming Yongning mosque is a quadrangle with a mountain shaped gate tower facing north and an open patio inside. The chapel is a pure wood structure on the top of Xieshan mountain, covered with green glazed tiles. There is a wooden plaque of "Chaozhen hall" in the middle of the gate. It is 4 rooms wide and 2 rooms deep, with bucket girder. The hall covers an area of more than 200 square meters. In front of the hall, there is a roll shed type open corridor, and the walls on both sides are painted with the pilgrimage map of Mecca. On the opposite side of the hall, there are seven rooms, which are used as a resting place for those who attend the ceremony. There is a classroom and a meeting room on the side of the hall. The bathroom is located behind the meeting room. Although the scale of the temple is smaller than that built in the Yongli period, the education of Jingtang has been prosperous. Imams and Zhangjiao of mosques all over Yunnan have studied here.
