Xixing ancient town

The ancient town of Xixing on the South Bank of Qiantang River used to be the gateway of Zhejiang and Zhejiang in history, with developed transportation and dangerous terrain. Since ancient times, it has been "the first place in eastern Zhejiang, the throat of Nanjing, Shaoxing and Taiwan". The history of Xixing can be traced back to the spring and Autumn period. Fan Li, a senior official of the state of Yue, built a city here to reject Wu, which was called Guling. It was called Xiling in the Six Dynasties. Qian Liu, the king of Wu and Yue, changed the Western mausoleum to Xixing because "mausoleum" was not auspicious. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Xixing was under the jurisdiction of Xiaoshan County, Shaoxing Prefecture, which was still under the jurisdiction of the Republic of China. After liberation, Xiaoshan County belonged to Hangzhou City, while Xixing belonged to Hangzhou. In 1996, Xiaoshan Yanpu, Changhe and Xixing towns were designated in Xihu District of Hangzhou City, and then Binjiang District was set up separately. Therefore, although Xixing belongs to the urban area of Hangzhou, it is closer to Shaoxing than Hangzhou in terms of language and architecture.

The west end of Xixing old street, an ancient town of Xixing, is connected with the source of the East Zhejiang ancient canal. It is the origin of the ancient canal with a total length of more than 250 kilometers. It flows into the East China Sea in the south of Zhenhai city through Xiaoshan, Shaoxing, Shangyu, Yuyao and Ningbo. Xixing is a transshipment terminal from south to north, where thousands of merchants gather, scholars and people come in an endless stream, and the city is prosperous. Therefore, there is a "cross Tang line", which is the "transfer operation" of transshipment goods for past merchants. Merchants from north and South and goods from East and West have to gather here for transshipment. Therefore, cross Tang line is full of Xixing, which is a symbol of the heyday of Xixing business. "Xixing guotanghang and wharf" is a part of "Zhedong canal", one of the "Grand Canal" in the world heritage list.

In its heyday, Xixing had 72 and a half ponds. The business scope of seventy-two-and-a-half pass TANGHANG also has a general division of labor: eight have passed guests and eggs, including Zhao Yongli and Yu xiaobafang; four have passed tea, tobacco and medicinal materials, including Lai Jinbiao and sun Taihe; twelve have passed cattle, sheep, pigs and fish seedlings, including Zhong Dachun and Fu Sanfang; six have passed wine sauce, including Fu Ruxian and Chen Guangji; and six have passed cotton, silk and satin Cao Daben and Shen Huiquan; Xie Hengxiang, Xu Bingji and Shen Bafang; yuanyuanshenghe and Wang Chengfu; Li Qingji and Li Qingji; and Xu Guopei, who had passed baiza, lanterns, woodwork, tin foil and fan bone; the other two; and Xu Guopei, who had passed Yinyuan However, sun Jiahui's "rice field eel line" was nicknamed as "half pass pond line" because it only sold seasonal products such as rice field eel and was not open all year round.

With the withdrawal of the East Zhejiang canal from the historical stage, Xixing gradually declined after the 1980s. It is probably because of this that the old Xixing street has been preserved.

Xixing old street is one of the historical blocks protected in the protection plan of Hangzhou historical and cultural city, and is a part of Hangzhou as a famous historical and cultural city in China.

The old street of Xixing is close to the canal of Zhedong. The back door of the houses is near the water. There is a river quay and a small bridge running water. It is very south of the Yangtze River. The old street is divided into three sections by the main road, and most of the buildings on the street have been hastily repaired, which is quite out of shape. Some of the buildings have been rebuilt, and some of the old houses are decorated with ceramic tiles.
