Borden Forest Park

Borden Forest Park is located in lijiazhai experimental area of Jigongshan National Nature Reserve, Xinyang City, Henan Province. It is 6 kilometers away from Jigongshan in the South and 28 kilometers away from Xinyang City in the north, covering an area of 200 hectares. It is divided into 6 districts and more than 20 scenic spots.

The main scenic spots are Borden Memorial forest, Borden monument, pavilion, ancient tea stream, Minghu lake, Han'an memorial hall, Forest Amusement Park, qidai waterfall, Cuizhu Lianchi, bamboo and stone charm, Jinshan Range Rover, Jinshan Lake, bird watching Pavilion, etc. Borden Forest Park is an ecological scenic spot of Jigong Mountain National Nature Reserve. It was named after Borden, a British forester, Han an, a Chinese Forester and general Feng Yuxiang, who founded the forest farm here in 1918.

The park is located in the transition zone from subtropical zone to warm temperate zone, with abundant rainfall, fertile soil, mild climate, excellent forest ecology, and a wide range of wild animals and plants. It is a rare "gene pool" of animals and plants. Many rare and endangered animals and plants in the mountain forest are listed as national and provincial protection, known as the "treasure house of nature".

Mr. Borden

Mr. Borden came to China in 1909. In 1915, he was employed by the Ministry of agriculture and Commerce of the Chinese government as the assistant forestry administrator. In 1918, he was employed by the Ministry of communications as the Secretary of forestry of the people's Republic of China. In the same year, Mr. Borden and Mr. Han an, a Chinese forester, purchased dozens of acres of barren mountains in nanjigong mountain of Xinyang City, established a forest farm, planted trees, and introduced rare tree species such as Larix gmelinii and Taxodium ascendens from North America. General Feng Yuxiang, who was stationed in Xinyang at that time, also led his troops to take part in the project, which created a precedent of modern military afforestation in China. So far, the North American cypress, which is still in storage, is still in storage, preserving the office site of Paulden and Han An, and preserving the British Wutong planted by general Feng Yuxiang personally.
