Former residence of Cao Yu

Cao Yu's former residence, located on the left bank of the Haihe River, was built in the early Republic of China in Italian style. Both the front and back floors of the former residence are of brick and wood structure, with balconies on the upper and lower floors. Cao Yu lived here in his youth, which is also the starting point of his artistic career. The famous drama thunderstorm was completed on 25 democracy Road.

The former residence is now for the public. With the erosion of years, the small building has become old. The relevant departments are actively promoting the restoration and building a memorial hall.

Cao Yu's former residence is located in the east of Minzhu Road, Hebei District, Tianjin. Sitting in the East and facing the west, a two-story brick and wood building was built in the late Qing Dynasty. It extends to the wall of No. 21 democracy Road in the East, to the wall of No. 27 democracy Road in the west, and to the wall of No. 23 democracy Road in the south. The existing courtyard is narrow, with two floors and five bungalows. Courtyard 23 (front yard) faces north from the south. The environment is the same as above. It has two floors of aisle and two independent buildings. No. 23 hospital covers an area of 510.89 square meters and a building area of 483.29 square meters. No. 25 hospital covers an area of 401.55 square meters and a building area of 343.82 square meters.

Cao Yu (1910-1996), formerly known as Wan Jiabao, was born in Tianjin and a famous playwright in China. I like literature and drama since childhood. In 1924, he entered Nankai Middle School and began to engage in drama activities. He was promoted to Nankai University in 1928 and transferred to Tsinghua University in 1929. In 1933, he completed his first work thunderstorm, which shocked the drama industry at that time. After graduating from Tsinghua University, he was promoted to graduate school with outstanding achievements, specializing in drama research. In 1935, he went to Tianjin to experience life, and created the drama sunrise. In 1940, he published Peking man, in 1946, he created bridge, and in 1948, he published the screenplay《 These works made Cao Yu famous all over the world, marking the development of drama to a peak.
