Shanghai City Sculpture Art Center

Through protective transformation and functional reconstruction, Shanghai Urban Sculpture Art Center has built an old factory which was once very brilliant but no longer in use into a public art palace which not only embodies the vitality of urban art and the spirit of the times, but also continues the historical context of the city.

In order to promote the construction of Shanghai Urban Sculpture Art Center, under the leadership of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government, the office of Shanghai Urban Sculpture Committee and Shanghai urban planning administration have planned and constructed an open, public welfare and international sculpture art platform, which has set up an international sculpture art platform integrating Exhibition and exchange, production incubation, sculpture reserve and art education A city sculpture art center of high standard.

Based on the international successful experience of using abandoned industrial buildings to transform into public art center in municipal construction, the site selection of Shanghai Urban Sculpture Art Center is also based on actively promoting the protection and reuse of Shanghai industrial heritage. After comparison and demonstration of multiple schemes, the final site is the abandoned cold strip mill of No. 10 plant of Shanghai Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., No. 570, Huaihai West Road.

The workshop was built in 1956. The main building is 180 meters long and 18-35 meters wide, covering an area of 6280 square meters. The building structure is tall, the space is open, rough and vigorous, providing an ideal development space for Shanghai Urban Sculpture Art Center.

Shanghai urban sculpture art center covers an area of about 50000 square meters, which is composed of urban sculpture art center, sculpture square and related supporting facilities. At present, the total area of the open building is 10000 square meters, including 6000 square meters of indoor public art exhibition space and 150 million square meters of sculpture square, including about 10000 square meters of outdoor public exhibition space. According to the plan, the completion of Shanghai Urban Sculpture Art Center will drive the area to gradually develop into the most dynamic public art center in the central area of Shanghai.
