Gongshan Island

Gongshan island is an island surrounded by water in the northeast of Taihu Lake. It is composed of Gongshan mountains and Wanfo stone pagoda in the southwest. It is an important part of Tianling scenic spot.

Island legend

There are two small islands in Taihu Lake near Mashan village. The big one is called Dagong mountain, and the small one is called Xiaogong mountain. In the past, there were folklores. It is probably said that Dagong mountain was originally the embodiment of tortoise, while Xiaogong mountain is the embodiment of dragon, but the story is gradually forgotten.

Development status

Nowadays, Dagong mountain is rich in tea, which is called gongcha. It is said that Dagong mountain is the royal tea of Wuzhong District government departments, while Xiaogong mountain is in the wilderness. I heard that someone wanted to invest in it, but it ended up in nothing. Today, with the development of Suzhou high tech zone and the comprehensive development of Western Suzhou, a bridge has been built between Dagong mountain and Xiaogong mountain, and the road around Taihu Lake is getting longer and longer. It is rich in Gongshan tea and fishery.
