Shitang town

Shitang Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Renhua county, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province, is located in the west of Renhua county, connecting Dongtang town in the East, Huaping town of Zhenjiang District in the south, langtian town of Lechang City in the west, and Hongshan Town in the north, 19 kilometers away from Renhua County. The administrative area is 80 square kilometers. In late 2019, the registered residence of Shi Tong town was 13571.

In the northern and Southern Dynasties, the ancestors lived in Shitang town. Tang chuigong four years (688), Renhua county Tongyang township (Dongtang, Shitang). In Ming Dynasty, it was called Shitang capital. In 1941, it belonged to Dongtang township. In 1986, Shitang town was established. As of June 2020, Shitang town has one community and six administrative villages.

Historical evolution

Shitang town has a long history. In the northern and Southern Dynasties, its ancestors lived here. Shitang is high in the West and low in the East, surrounded by mountains on three sides. It is said that there are many fish ponds around and stalagmites in the ponds, so it is called Shitang.

Shitang town is a territory of Renhua county, and its subordinate relationship evolves with the evolution of Administrative Region of Renhua county.

Due to the influence of ancient crustal movement, the geological strata in Shitang town are well developed. The geological rock mass is mainly composed of sand shale, and the strata around the rock mass are mainly Sinian and Cambrian. Calc alkaline strata are exposed. Limestone is widely distributed. Limestone is abundant in shihuichong, Lilin, Huangwu and other places. Secondly, coal bearing formation of Mesozoic marine terrestrial interaction is also exposed. Coal reserves are abundant. Daheshan, huangnigeng, wubeiling and other places are rich in raw coal reserves.

The terrain of Shitang town inclines from west to East and extends from the middle and lower parts to North and south. In the west, it is mainly mountainous. It belongs to Lingnan mountain range, covering an area of 5605.4 hectares, accounting for 69.5% of the total area of the town. These mountains are overlapped, covered with natural bamboo and wood, with high humidity. Hills are mainly located below 300 meters above sea level, mostly distributed in Shitang River, the Bank of Guangming River, Shitang village, Shuili, Tianxin, Jingdi, Hetang, xiazhongben and other broad valley areas, with flat terrain and fertile land. There are three rivers in Shitang Town, with a total length of 61.6 km. The main rivers are Shuitian River and Shitang River, which run through the hinterland of the town and flow into Dongtang River from southwest and northwest to East respectively.

Shitang River, originating from Guanyin zuolinian in shangzhongben, flows into Jiangtou River in Dongtang through Shawan, shangzhongben, xiazhongben, Shitang and Shuili, with a total length of about 15 kilometers.

Shuitian River, also known as Guangming River, originates from Dahe mountain and flows into Jiangtou river through Masao, Tianxin, Datang, Shuili, shuikoutaxia and Shitang River, with a total length of about 11 km.

Sixi River, originated in Sixi mountain, flows into Jiangtou Dongtang river through wuzhuzui, Hetang and HOUZIPING. The length of the river is 35.6 kilometers, and the drainage area is 296.70 square kilometers.

1. The mountainous area is 87000 mu, accounting for 72% of the land area, mainly distributed in the west, South and north of the town. There are about 15000 mu of low mountain and low forest suitable for forestry production, accounting for 12% of the land area. Terraces, row fields and pit fields with gentle hillside and good light and temperature conditions are suitable for forest production.

2. The area of hills (below 500 meters above sea level) is more than 2000 mu, accounting for 18% of the land area. Zhongqiu, with an altitude of 100-300 meters, covers an area of about 15000 mu, accounting for 80% of the land area. It is mainly distributed in the broad areas on both sides of Shitang River, Guangming River and Sixi River, and is suitable for agricultural production.

1. The total area of cultivated land is 1617 mu, accounting for 18.5% of the total land area. The per capita cultivated land of agriculture is 1.3 mu, including 15321 mu of paddy field and 2024 mu of dry dam land. In the 1980s, most of the western mountainous areas (shangzhongben) were planted with rice as the primary cropping system, while the rest were double cropping rice in the villages of the Hilly Basin. After 2000, most of the mountainous areas were abandoned for grass and forest.

2. The area of forest land is 53000 mu, accounting for 44% of the total land area. The area of forest land is 56.5.4 hectares, including 4312 hectares of forest area and 89% of forest coverage. The soil layer of forest land is deep, and the water and humidity conditions are good. It has a good environment for natural growth of trees.

3. The water area of rivers, ponds, reservoirs and fish ponds is 1080 mu, accounting for 0.9% of the total land area. The stone pond is the largest area of rivers, the ponds are mainly used for water storage and irrigation, and the reservoirs are used for irrigation, power generation and drinking water.

4. There are more than 480 mu of barren hills and wasteland, accounting for 0.4% of the land area.

Shitang town has abundant rainfall, with an average annual rainfall of 1660.6 mm. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides, shaded by bamboo and trees, and crisscross with streams. Shitang, Shuitian and Sixi rivers run through the town. It is rich in water resources and convenient for farmland irrigation. The upper reaches of the rivers are scattered in various valleys, and natural water is used to irrigate farmland. There are permanent water pools in the irrigation area of the cultivated land in the lower reaches. The river is easy to rise and easy to retreat, and the drought and flood are not serious. There is also abundant groundwater in the territory, which can be used for digging wells and pumping water.

As the source of Shitang river is relatively flat with small drop, there are only two small power stations built with reservoirs in the town, with a total installed capacity of 375 kW.
