Gahai, also known as Gahai Salt Lake, is located in Gahai Town, Delingha City, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, covering an area of 37 square kilometers, with an average depth of 8 meters and a maximum depth of 15 meters. The lake basin is a Cenozoic subsidence basin, which is recharged mainly by atmospheric precipitation and underground phreatic water.

Location context

Gahai Salt Lake is located in Gahai Town, Delingha City, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, 45 kilometers northwest of Delingha city. Qinghai Tibet railway and Xining Golmud (North line) highway pass through to the east of the lake area, with convenient transportation. The salt lake covers an area of 37 square kilometers, with an average depth of 8 meters and a maximum depth of 15 meters. The lake basin is a Cenozoic subsidence basin, which is recharged mainly by atmospheric precipitation and underground phreatic water.

Lake District products

The mineral resources of Gahai salt lake are mainly rock salt, which has little mining value. However, the lake water is rich in Artemia resources. It has been developed and utilized in the 1980s. The annual output of Artemia eggs in the prosperous period reached 106 tons, accounting for about one tenth of the national output. In recent years, due to climate change, especially the environmental pollution caused by industrial wastewater, Gahai Salt Lake has been basically unable to catch. The dark purple red one in the middle of the picture is chaikai lake, and the green one in the lower right corner is the western corner of Keke salt lake.
